I've always loved Dan's Rock. We usually visit a couple times a year. This last time we actually decided to go early and watch the sunrise. It was amazing!
Great overlook. Didn't appreciate the graffiti, especially as a scout troop trying to teach leave no trace. But the view was amazing.
My wife's work rented a pavilion for a company picnic, the maintenance guy stopped by to see if we needed anything and lent us an extension cord, very personable and friendly. It was an odd cool August day and he informed us that the pool was heated and the water temp was 80 degrees, he wasn't kidding the grandkids loved the water!!
If your talking about the Dans Mt.Park itself on the Locaoning side west of the Main WMA you would see what you want in a great recreation are for homely parents and their children to play view wildlife and swim in the pool area.there is even a fishing pond to wet a line in stocked by trout early in the year,BUT!If your an elderly hunter and you have hunted all your life in Western Md.The WMA has been over half the deer and small game seasons you have found since 1990 the main body of the WMA in two sections covering over 6,000 acre,s from Brant rd to Four sister golf course has been cut off by private land owners. As is the south west section north and west of the toms run entrance another 3000 acres inaccessible to elderly hunters. Most of Dan,s Mt Huntable acreage is Not HUNTABLE. Although the WM.Service of Md will say it is open to all who will enjoy.Yea if you can walk from a 1400 sea level to a 2400 sea level at an 85% incline with your heavy back pack bow and tree-stand to where you use to hunt before you have a heart attack. Today's Dans Mt. wildlife are is just that access to wildlife and extremely limited access to hunters especially the elderly. The Federal cuts in the !990s has cut the rd maintenance in non-existence mode. The States also have taken the timber sales to profit for purchases of other lands to expand the states land volume in other places. The Dons Mt.Middle ridge rd is only 1/4th of its length it used to be in the 1980s. Grown up so that only 4x4s can navigate it now that is the 4 wheeler type and not a vehicle type. The Four Sisters Golf course has taken the Mill run right away thanks to John Barton's seizure of an old mans acreage at the beginning of the Glof courses maintenance and electric plant closed to all hunters forever.Truly the days of wide spread Hunter access on Dans is now vacant to the elderly.
A good place for deer hunting if you're fit and ready to earn your game the hard way. Extremely steep and difficult to bring game out.
